Winch & Blatch was formed in 1945 when John and Vera Blatch bought CF Winch, a long established and highly regarded drapery business in Sudbury. To honour the respected Winch name and to build on their excellent reputation, the new company became Winch & Blatch.

The company expanded and bought 3 more premises in Sudbury to create a department store with departments for ladieswear; menswear; a traditional haberdashery department; soft furnishings offering made-to-measure curtains and blinds; ladies shoes, hosiery, bags, purses and other fashion accessories; gifts; lingerie with bra-measuring and fitting service; and products for the home, including cookshop, bedlinens and towels.

Winch & Blatch employs approximately 75 full and part-time staff and remains the only independent department store in the Sudbury area.

Still family owned and run by Richard and Judith Blatch, son and daughter-in-law of the original owners, John and Vera Blatch, customers are attracted back time and time again by both the excellent customer service they receive and the unique charm and individuality of a family run business.
